The SAID principle and why it’s so important
SAID stands for Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demands. Basically, it means that when we do something our body adapts specifically to that one thing. So, for example, if you want to do get better at pulls ups the best solution would be to do….a lot of pull ups! A shocker, I know. Especially with the amount of people around that’ll tell you to abuse the lat pull down instead of actually doing the exercise you want to get better at. I mean, what would you tell someone who wants to become a better artist? Ora better programmer?
And yes, there is carryover. Doing some exercises will help you with certain other exercises, provided they are somewhat similar. But the BEST way to be better at something is to do it over and over and over and over and over again.
10 feats that make you feel like a little girl
I was searching the web, and came across this amazing blog post. Just goes to show you how super-mega-amazingly awesome you can be if you actually put your mind to it.
Go here to see the list.
Just how does that make you feel?
The perfect pushup
I’ve noticed this a lot, most people just don’t know how to do a push up. They let their butts sag down, move their neck in awkward ways, lock their elbows etc. Repeatedly making these mistakes will no doubt affect you in the long run.
1. Make sure your body is straight. Not only does it look like your trying to touch the floor with your crouch, but it’s just no good for your.
2. Make sure your hands aren’t too in front (unless you’re trying the superman push up) or behind your shoulders. They should be somewhere underneath your shoulders.
3. Don’t do weird things with your neck. Make sure your neck aligns with your body to form a straight line. Kinda like when you’re standing upwards.
4. Don’t lock you’re elbows.
What are tips do you think we can use to better our push ups?
Flex those muscles!
Tension is strength. What does that mean exactly you say? Try lifting something light, like a water bottle. Now try to pick up your dressing table. Watch those muscles pop! That is tension. Tension is how our body reacts to heavy weight. Have something heavy in your hands? Your body is gonna make sure those muscles are tensed to their max so that you can actually support the weight. The more tension you can generate, the more weight you will be able to lift, TENSION = STRENGTH. Sure, that’s not all there is to it, but that strength at its core. So if you lift weight, be sure to flex the muscles you are using to your maximum. Even if you aren’t lifting weights, flexing from time to time has its benefits. Look up muscle control.
So, try it out. Flex to your max during your workouts or when you have nothing better to do. Do you see or feel any results?
5 awesome Jack Lalanne quotes
We all know about the famous Jack Lalanne, or at least we should. In case you don’t, Jack Lalanne is a fitness guru and an inspiration to us all. Born in 1914, he was highly addicted to junk food in his younger years. At age 15, his mother dragged him to a speech by Mr. Paul Bragg. An event which changed his life forever, and for the better. He started to eat right, eliminating almost all man-made foods, and exercising. Even now, at age 95, he is still going as strong as ever. Just think about it, ninety-five. How many 95 year olds do you know that can even walk?
Anyway, here are some quotes by the big man himself. Enjoy.
“By exercise. I’ll tell you one thing, you don’t always have to be on the go. I sit around a lot, I read a lot, and I do watch television. But I also work out for two hours every day of my life, even when I’m on the road.”
“I only eat fish – no chicken, no turkey, just fish. I get all my protein from fish and egg whites.”
“Look at the average American diet: ice cream, butter, cheese, whole milk, all this fat. People don’t realize how much of this stuff you get by the end of the day. High blood pressure is from all this high-fat eating.”
“Remember this: your body is your slave; it works for you.”
“We don’t know all the answers. If we knew all the answers we’d be bored, wouldn’t we? We keep looking, searching, trying to get more knowledge.”
Learn to enjoy exercise
This is the problem with a lot of people, they don’t actually like exercising. They see it as a chore, like filing papers or washing the dishes. Needless to say, this is very counter-productive. You wouldn’t like to work at a job you hate, right? Why should it be any different with health and overall fitness? Even though the economy isn’t doing all that well right now, you can always quit your job if the situation really becomes that bad. There is no quitting fitness, unless you find the thought of gasping for breath walking from your room to your car appealing.
So, how exactly do you learn to enjoy exercise? Well, by exercising of course. When you actually start exercising on the regular, you’ll notice that it becomes a part of you. If done consistently, you’ll eventually want to get out there and run or pump some iron. the hard part is actually taking the first few steps and plunging into the world of fitness.
Of course, some things just aren’t for certain people. Don’t ever think that you have to do run 5 miles a day if you absolutely hate it. Do something you find fun. Yoy like tennis? Go for it.
This is probably obvious to a lot of you, but you’d be surprised at how many people don’t take care of themselves just cause they don’t like it.
Are you ready?
Hello everyone!
As you should be able to tell, this is a blog primarily about fitness. Fitness is arguably the most important part of our being, it is what allows us to live long and fulfilling lives. You don’t have to be a millionaire to live a good life, but I think you do have to be fit, on a certain level at least. I mean, what the use of having a million dollars in your bank account if you are to weak and/or sick to actually enjoy it?
There isn’t much here at all yet, but that will soon change. I hope to inform and learn a lot here.
